    pRadiohead har släppt låten citeNude/cite. Samtidigt har de släppt låten i en splittrad version där du själv (inom vissa ramar förvisso) kan göra din egen version. Äntligen, menar jag./p pNär jag lyssnar på bandets egen version av citeNude/cite tycker jag att låten är sådär. Lite för tjocka lager av ljud ligger ivägen för det som jag tycker låter allra bäst, nämligen strongThom Yorkes/strong sång och det känsliga gitarrspel som stöttar honom. Så bra då att Radiohead bestämt sig för att ge mig möjligheten att skapa min egen version av Nude. I den nedladdningstjänst jag använder kostar mig detta nöje 54 kronor. Då får jag den officiella versionen av citeNude/cite samt de fem olika spår jag själv kan sätta ihop för att göra min egen version./p pSå jag öppnar laddar hem paketet och öppnar den lilla ljudbehandlare som följer med operativsystemet till den äppelmärkta produkt av laptopkaraktär jag använder, lägger in spåren för bas, trummor, gitarr, sång och övriga ljud som körer, stråkarrangemang etc. Där lyssnar jag igenom spår för spår innan jag lyssnar på Radioheads egen version igen. Efter denna lilla analys får jag ganska snabbt klart för mig hur jag vill att Nude ska låta./p pNaknare./p pAlltså tar jag bort spåret med körerna och stråkarna och låter min version bygga på den försiktiga basen, de nästan jazzigt tassande gitarrerna och sången. Efter lite mer än halva låten låter jag trummorna vara med. Vips, har Radiohead släppt sin bästa låt sedan citeStreet Spirit/cite. Helt i min smak. /p pDet kanske kan störa några puritaner att inte ens en låt längre behöver vara en låt. Att möjligheten att remixa blir konsumentens eget privilegium. För mig är det en utveckling som varit efterlängtad. Fler borde ta efter Radioheads exempel. The Bay Area producer (Akon, Talib Kweli)/half of Zion I has scrapped together a project dubbed emRainydayz Remixes/em, culling six emIR/em cuts and chopping 'em up, spiking the punch with varying degrees of embellishments. "Weird Fishes" stays true to the original's arc -- one groove, one progression; slowly grooving, slowly progressing -- spiced up with a fake finish, some Thom tinkering and a Radiohead-meets-Neptunes-enhanced-JT beat. I kept pretty quiet about a href="http://www.inrainbows.com"strongemIn Rainbows/em/strong/a when the album came out - I think it was enough that every blogger and his/her mom, dad, sister and fourth cousin twice removed gushed about it a few weeks ago - but I really do think the record is worth a mention.nbsp; And this post is not for those of you who have devoured every word written about emIn Rainbows/em, it's not for rabid Radiohead fans or even those who have already downloaded and heard the album.nbsp; I'm directing this message to strongyou/strong, the readers out there who haven't heard it yet, those who kinda shrugged and thought quot;oh that's coolquot; when you heard it was free but haven't felt motivated enough to give it a download and a listen.nbsp; And I have a feeling some of you are reading this. /p pSee the thing is, I sometimes feel like the only person in my age group/music-loving social circle that isn't in love with Radiohead.nbsp; I'm not saying I dislike the band, because I really like a lot of their music, have heard all of their albums and own most of them, even though I don't listen to them that frequently.nbsp; I just think I'm kind of apathetic when it comes to the band.nbsp; I respect them and can appreciate their music and I'm actually head-over-heels for a few of their songs, but really when it comes down to it I'm a little indifferent.nbsp; I think my apathy stems from those formative years when emOK Computer/em was changing everyone's life (and I'm not mocking - I really can appreciate the ability of a great album to change the way you look at music) - and I was living in another world, happily attending Rusted Root shows and being a bit of a hippie.nbsp; I think I missed the window of opportunity for being a huge Radiohead fan - without an emotionally-charged entry point I never had the chance to imprint on the band the way I might have when I was a teenager.nbsp; /p pSo now that you know how I feel about Radiohead, let me tell you how I feel about emIn Rainbows/em.nbsp; First, it really is a very good album.nbsp; I know I thought that the day it came out - it has that comfortable feeling that feels strangely familiar right off the bat, the feeling I've come to associate with songs and albums that can stand up to time and repeated listens.nbsp; It also sounds like you would expect Radiohead to sound, without being excessively tricky and experimental and off-putting.nbsp; It's exceptionally good background music when you're doing something else, but if you listen to it loudly (say, in your car on the way to work) you notice the details and intricacies and the band's knack for melodies and note progressions that catch you in that place between your collarbones.nbsp; Second, I think it's really a great place to begin if you've never been that into Radiohead.nbsp; I don't think it's going to change your life (to be honest, it probably won't even make my year-end list) but it may be the best (legally) free album you ever come across, unless the music industry starts moving in the direction of the emIn Rainbows/em experiment.nbsp; In a few years, I think it's likely I'll be saying quot;oh wow, I totally forgot about emIn Rainbows/em,quot; but I'm also fairly sure that when I play the album it will sound as good as it did in my car this morning. /p pYou're not going to get the cheerleader-y quot;go listen to this - strongnow/strongquot; that I tack on to things I'm really enthusiastic about, but I do really think this album is worth a listen, especially because you can choose to pay nothing for it, without any guilt.nbsp; I guess the short version of this post is: quot;I think you'd like this even if you don't lovelovelove Radiohead, and anyway what do you have to lose - it's free.quot;nbsp; But some of the words you might use, the big ones - love, happiness, sorrow - these can remain abstract for years, even if you don't know it. And then one day, something will happen, something will get you - or someone will touch you suddenly, like a thorn coming by chance under your sleeve to graze your skin; and then you are changed, and you find you have to go back to your vocabulary, and think. You have to redefine the word 'beautiful', because everything is new, and even though you thought you knew where you were before, your emotional map is upside down. And it feels glorious.br /This song, on first listen, as not quite as big as this, but it might well be the product of such a shock, the kind that makes you go and rewrite your idea of love, when love is now a real thing that you get to deal with. Piensen bien en lo que estoy diciendo: ¿de cuantos grupos se puede decir que su mejor disco sea el séptimo? La mayoría chafea mucho antes. Pero Radiohead es otro asunto.
